Many layers of shellac required to seal. Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® . French Linen, Versailles, Old White on base, hardware, and trim. Followed by clear wax, dark wax and gilding wax. For cabinet doors, sides and top: Provence, Old White, Paloma and clear wax.
It turned out lovely!

This turned out beautifully. I know it was a LOT of pain but I love this layer of color. I had the bleeding problem with a china cabinet I did a couple of years ago. I ended up using several layers of oil based primer (I had initially primed with water based primer - just to save paint) after the first primer and a couple of coats of ASCP in Pure White. So all in all I had maybe 8 coats? That's a lot of painting on a big piece! Anyway, thanks for sharing your beautiful pieces. I always look forward to seeing your pieces.

Deleteit would be daunting on a china cabinet. This was a relatively small piece. The few times I've had bleed through there were always signs that it could be a potential problem. Next time I will err on the side of caution because once it starts it seems like it is 3X more work to contain it. I say that now.... Thanks for commiserating!,

Thanks so much for this very helpful post! I'm preparing to tackle my first big project and found this very informative!
